What to look for in Tennis Shoes
Tennis shoes have come a long way since the plimsols that used to worn, but what should you be looking for when looking to
buy a new pair of tennis shoes.
The ideal shoe will remain comfortable while playing tennis, and help to prevent any injury. Many people
have different foot shapes and styles of running, so you need to achieve a balance
amongst such characteristics as durability, cushioning, stability and fit
Everybody has their own style of running, take a look at your old shoes and you may see
a tell-tale pattern. If your sole is worn towards
the inside and the upper is overhanging
the sole, you're rolling
inwards more than normal
which generally means your
foot is flatter than average.
If all the wear is towards the
outside of the sole, and the
upper bulges out that way,
you don't roll in enough.
Also look for durability, added reinforcement in the toe area will help stand up to toe drag. A removable insole will provide some cushioning and tends to be
the first part of the shoe to break down, by replacing your insoles halfway through the life of your shoes
and you may feel renewed comfort.
Internal & External Support Features
The side-to-side movement in tennis calls for a lot
of extra support. Different brands use different internal support features.
Many use contoured mid-soles which allow the foot to sit right down inside the
moulded sole unit for additional support.
External support features include a firm resistant heel
counter to increase rear foot control, and For additional stability a
foot frame and variable lacing.
